One
of the most frequently asked questions we hear is, "How
did you get from Texas to Camp Sawtooth?" Our response,
"You know how to make God laugh? You make plans
for your future." Little did we know God had planned
for us to be the Directors of Camp Sawtooth.
Ted
Davis has worked in the NBA for the last 16
years as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Dallas
Mavericks and currently for the Milwaukee Bucks. In all, Ted has worked for the NBA for 20 years. Since
the age of 8 Ted always knew he wanted to be on the
radio. From that moment on he practiced loosing his
native Texas accent, with the help of his big sister,
the English teacher and focused on his dream. His broadcasting
career began in 1973, while still attending Denton High
School, where he also met and later married his high
school sweetheart. Thirty-one years later it is safe
to say broadcasting has become his career.
Debbie
Davis has worked at many jobs and invented a rolling pin which is patented and available on QVC in April of 2007. Retail sales,
the advertising dept. of the Dr Pepper National Hdqts.,
a bank teller, served on 2 boards organizing fund raisers
& neighborhood events, a volunteer at her church
and has invented a new kitchen tool which is currently
patent pending. Finally, after 31 years of sampling
a variety of jobs, all the while maintaining & honing
her native Texas accent, has realized her passion is
to help others by using the many job skills, life experiences
and talents God has given her.

The
Davises, in an effort to escape the Texas heat,
started spending their summers in the Idaho Bear Valley.
They attended the Bear Lake Community Church in Montpelier,
ID where Ted was first asked to volunteer as a cabin
counselor at Camp Sawtooth. Ted, having only been recently
baptized at the age of 40, was somewhat reluctant but
agreed to counsel. It was a profound experience that
has drawn Ted closer to God and returning to Camp Sawtooth
since 2000. In 2002 Debbie joined her husband sharing
in the experiences of a cabin counselor as well as the
fun and fellowship of a children's Christian camp.
During
this time God threw the Davises another curve: Ted was
offered a broadcasting position with the Milwaukee Bucks.
So they moved to Wisconsin where the Texas heat was
no longer a problem. Little did they know that God's
plan had not yet come to fruition. In 2002 they were
asked to consider applying for the Directorship of Camp
Sawtooth. After much prayer God affirmed His answer and
they knew God had been guiding and preparing them for
His ministry at Camp Sawtooth all along. Beginning January
1, 2004, Ted & Debbie began their ministry as Directors
of Camp Sawtooth. Their hope is to continue the traditions
Camp Sawtooth while incorporating new experiences to
be shared with more children generation after generation.
Camp
Sawtooth is a place of beauty and fellowship. A place
where every child will experience fun, games & laughter
in the surroundings of the Sawtooth National Recreation
Area. A place where friendships are formed and life
long memories are made. A place where the love &
compassion of Jesus Christ will touch their hearts filling
them with a joy that will impact their lives with a
closer relationship with God.
